Meet the Queen of Cups (IRL) - Lisa Bonet

This watery beauty (who apparently ages in reverse) was born on November 16, 1967, in San Francisco, California. She's a Cancer Rising, Taurus Moon, and Scorpio Sun, with a Scorpio stellium — including her Sun, Mercury, and Neptune — in her watery 4th House. She's the perfect water/water energy to represent the Queen of Cups IRL.

Both of her parents came from creative, musical backgrounds — something we often see in the parents of folks with Neptune in the 4th House. They split up when Bonet was still a baby, and she was raised by a single mother in the Los Angeles area. Bonet is biracial; her father is Black and her mother is Jewish, and she's spoken openly about the struggles that came with that. "The world wasn't ready for what I represented, the merging of these two races," she said in an interview with Porter Edit in 2018. "I didn't always feel welcome – in my mom's family, in my school. So I sheltered myself by always withholding a bit because I didn't always feel safe." Still, she's said she found a sense of safety and belonging in the arts. She started acting young, booking commercials as early as age 11, and after high school majored in acting at the Celluloid Actors' Studio.

At 16, she landed the role of Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show — still one of her most notable roles to date. She was on the show from 1984 to 1992, taking a short break in 1987 to work on its spin-off about Denise going off to college, A Different World. Her character on the show was artsy and rebellious, not far off from Bonet herself.

As she got older, she craved more mature roles. In 1987, she took on a part in Angel Heart, sharing a sex scene with Mickey Rourke, and even did a topless photoshoot and interview for a magazine while promoting the film. She's said she wasn't concerned with maintaining the wholesome image she'd built on The Cosby Show — she was more interested in following her intuition, her career, and what felt fulfilling. This is where the friction with the "squeaky clean" TV patriarch Bill Cosby began. When he learned about the movie and the interview, he "encouraged" her to leave The Cosby Show to work on A Different World instead. Bonet then got engaged to rock star Lenny Kravitz and became pregnant shortly after — the final straw for Bill, who fired her. Ironic, isn't it, given what we now know about Cosby?

Bonet has since spoken out about the sexual assault allegations against him, saying she "sensed darkness" in him. Her exact words were nothing short of what you'd expect from our intuitive Queen of Cups — it was all about the vibes. Asked if she'd noticed anything strange about Cosby during her time on the show, she said: "There was just energy. And that type of sinister, shadow energy cannot be concealed."

After parting ways with the show, Bonet went on to more TV acting and several films, including Enemy of the State (1998), High Fidelity (2000), Biker Boyz (2003), and Road to Paloma (2014).

She and Lenny Kravitz eloped in 1987, and they have a daughter together you may know — Zoë Kravitz. Lenny and Bonet split in 1993 but remain close friends. Bonet started a relationship with Scorpio Moon Jason Momoa in 2005; the two wed in 2017 and have two children together, before announcing their separation in 2022.

Something about Bonet has always felt very Queen of Cups to me. This archetype sometimes gets boxed into a matronly image, but I think the Queen of Cups is nourishing and emotionally intense, ruled by feeling. Remember, water isn't always still — it can be dark and mysterious, even destructive. Bonet walks that line between being an emotionally aware nurturer and a dark, impenetrable rebel.
